vBulletin was first released in 2000. Since then there have been many major and upgrades to the software. The latest stable release of vBulletin is 3.7.0 was released on April 29, 2008. vBulletin is known worldwide for it’s creation of instant communities; allowing users to interact in discussion about particular topics.

vBulletin was orginally written in perl and used a flat file database system. However, as sites grew they notice that sites could not cope with a large amounts of traffic. This problem has now been fully rectified when vBulletin was converted to php and a mysql database system.

vBulletin has a range of licenses available for purchase.
(Owned License) is apporximately $160- which allows you to run the software indefinently with 1 year of free updates and $30 for each year beyond that.
(Leased License) is apporximately $85- which allows you to run the software with updates for 1 year. After this period you will need to renew the license.

I want to use vBulletin. So what’s next?
You need to go to the vBulletin website and order the package. You will be given a link to download the software to your computer. From this point you will need to register a domain name and some web hosting. Next, you will need an ftp program to upload all the files to your web hosting provider.
Download FileZilla the free ftp solution.
With your login details from your webhost you can open filezilla to upload your files.
There should also be comprehensive instructions within your vBulletin download as to how to setup your forum. Hint: look for an install.txt file. A google search of “vBulletin installation” may also offer additional help if required.
